Layers of Light
Recent work by Jan Kaufman

“Layers of Light,” an exhibit of Jan Kaufman’s most recent work, will be on display at Gallery 322 in Frederick, Maryland from April 13 through May 7, 2012.
The paintings in this show focus on the influence of light in creating a mood and in capturing the atmosphere of a scene at a precise moment in time. The quickly changing light, the quality of the atmosphere, and the tactile contact with the landscape all serve to direct the brushstrokes in this collection of work. Through the use of vibrant color, bold brushwork and elements of designyou are drawn into each painting, experiencing the uniqueness of the moment. From light bouncing off the wings of an airplane at Montgomery County Airpark, to the soft reflectio of a sunset in a Caribbean boat harbor, Kaufman’s paintings illustrate how light reveals a scene. This exhibit includes landscapes painted locally as well as during Kaufman’s travels to New Mexico, the Bahamas, and (recently) Cuba. The show also includes a selection of spring-inspired still lifes.
